It's 10pm tonight, but apparently the fish are biting.
Complete with 2 rods, reels, bobber, worm and fish.
Lots of good playtime together tonight- without sisters.
Three bits on my 2 and a half year old
Hair. I think we've hit a compromise. She isn't much for stuff in her hair, and I'm not pushing it. Although, she does like wearing the hair ties on her wrists and ankles. We're at the inbetween stage- waiting for it to grow out and pick a side. And versions of this are doing the trick.
It's nice to see her eyes and take in her whole beautiful face.
It hit me the other day how much she likes to just chat. "Mom, I just want to talk to you." I get that a lot. And I'm going to have to take time to sit and just chat. Be intentional. Most of the time she wants to tell me something that I did to her that she didn't like. But I think that is a good start. At least she'll tell me. And then I get a chance to respond- either asking forgiveness or helping her understand why I did what I did.
My favorite time of the day with her is quiet time. She gets to take her quiet time in mom and dad's bedroom. She gets one side of the bed with her books and pillow. I on the other. I read one book and then I nap while she reads herself to sleep.
Learning. Bit by bit. Biggest thing we are learning together, is just that- how to learn together. Me how to instruct, how to let him struggle, how to help him understand it doesn't and won't be perfect the first time or even the second time. And for him, how to stick with a task and not get frustrated.
A couple days late, but happy birthday to you Miss Evalyn! I wasn't quite sure what to do for your day, and in the end that was ok. We got lots of cuddling time in because of your cold. Early on your birthday morning our time together started. In the end I had to bring you to bed with me so we could both get some sleep. During the day we cuddled even more, especially since your brother and sister don't appreciate when you practice your new skills- walking, knowing the coveted toy and pushing your way in to get it. They do like it when you play peek-a-boo and share with them. I did make you some homemade chicken, vegetable, quinoa soup in hopes it would taste good and help you feel a little better.
You have changed so much this year and especially in the last 3 weeks. Walking, helping me unload the dish washer, helping mess up the laundry, giving me things, shaking your head yes and no. I must stop here and describe the "yes" and "no". The "no" is with the full body- left and right and your head follows. The "yes", your head goes up and down and your mouth open and closes. :) I have to say it's been awesome to be able to ask you yes and no questions and get an answer from you.
Right now you are on a late night kick. I think you like that time when no sibling can interrupt or distract you.
The other day, it sounded like you said Elijah and asked "what's this?".
Your sister still is likes you a lot and asks to hold you. :)
And your brother still calls you "Our baby, Evalyn", although you are very much our toddler now. :) You are loved. Happy birthday my 1 yr old!
And a note... tonight I've been motivated to write more. D was reading my blog to the kids. Elijah said, "Mom, dad is reading us stories!" And how true that is. These are mostly our stories. And that is what I want to capture more of. Little bits here and there of our story together.
And just like that someone is 4. With 3 birthdays packed into a week, it can be a challenge to make each birthday special. But I think we did it. Cake and ice cream. Burgers and fries. Banana muffins. Wrestling and pillow fights. Candles and singing "Happy Birthday"- made complete by recording a video of it for him to watch. Viewing pictures of his first few days and hearing the story of how he came into this world 4 yrs ago once again. Watching all sorts of videos recording his life on earth so far. Bath time fountain. Snuggles and bedtime stories. And little does he know that there is more in store yet tomorrow.
She was pretty proud of herself... pushing the cooler across the floor all by herself and getting into that drawer. We had quite the conversation while she was up there too. Chatterbox.
