Day off?

There is something wrong with this picture...

It's supposed to be my day off... but somehow I always manage to let this happen... on my day off. :)

1/30/12
Forget Not...

Praise the Lord, O my soul,
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the LORD, O my soul,
and FORGET NOT all his benefits-
who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love
and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with
good things
so that your youth is renewed
like the eagle's.
++ Psalm 103:1-5 ++

It was a week. A week where I forgot more than I remembered God's goodness. Oh how important it is to REMEMBER... how that will save you from the pit of despair. REMEMBER... FORGET NOT. Leave no room for the darkness... remember the light.
Realizing how important it is to memorize scripture. I need it.
E and I have been reading scripture and a little devotion each day since the beginning of the new year... usually at breakfast... somedays it gets bumped to a different meal. But we are making a new habit to our day. A good habit that I pray brings forth good things not only in E's life... but mine too.

This little girl is growing up fast. 8months in a few days...

{just for you kiersten!}
- currently has 4 teeth
- eating 2-3 meals of mushy baby food
- sitting well
- giving hints that crawling is coming sooner than later

- is really good at getting around despite not being able to crawl as seen below

- still not sleeping through the night consistently
- for the most part likes her brother- especially his silly antics- but not when they involve her ears or personal space... well unless she is the intiator. At bath time she attempts to get his toothbrush. She'll be getting her own this week.
- "talks" alot... lots of babbles, "dadadada", i've even heard "mom"- no seriously!, and plenty of silly growling

-and still cute, so much fun to cuddle with
- raising her arms to be picked up
-we've started introducing the signs "more" and "milk" and she's showing recognition.
-she is even telling me things... like one night I was in the last stages of supper making and heard her making a sucking noise and whining... she wanted her milk now.
-likes her daddy a lot :)

Muffins...

We don't eat cookies around here. Don't get me wrong, we like cookies... and that is where the problem lies. In my effort to satisfy that sweet craving and need for a quick snack, I've gone to muffins - not that all muffins are great for you either. But I've found that it's easier to alter the recipe and have them turn out just as good if not better. :)
Here is one that we enjoyed today.

Pumpkin muffins {via smitten kitchen}

{my take of the recipe referenced above}

1 cup canned solid-pack pumpkin (from a 15 ounce can) {leftover is making great baby food!}
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon pumpkin-pie spice {homemade pumpkin pie spice recipe}
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

Put oven in middle position and preheat oven to 350°F. I grease the pan.

Whisk together pumpkin, oil, eggs, pumpkin pie spice, sugar, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl until smooth, then whisk in flour mixture until just combined.

Divide batter among muffin cups (each should be about three-fourths full). Bake until puffed and golden brown and wooden pick or skewer inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean, 25 to 30 minutes.

Cool in pan on a rack five minutes, then transfer muffins from pan to rack and cool to warm or room temperature.

Another favorite here is the banana muffin. I would make banana bread but had the hardest time keeping it moist. So I thought it might work out better in muffin form. Enter the best recipe EVER for banana muffins. Ok, so that is my opinion... you try it and let me know if you feel the same way. :)

One of the things I resolved to do this year was go back to cloth diapers. I did the math and there was no question I could save a lot even if I went and bought some new ones... and so that's what I did.

I got a rainbow of colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. The white roll is called Earthies Bioliners. They help with the poopy stuff. Made of corn. Flushable. Washable if only pee up to 5 times. I'm all over that... cause the #2 business is not my favorite business whether cloth or disposable. Elijah knows the word "gross" {however he says it with a growl "fross"}... cause I make a face and say it everytime. They arrived on Wednesday... and that evening they were ready to go.
And so to go with the new diapers I decided to jazz up the diaper changing pads.

So they got some fancy trim. These were made from a waterproof crib mattress pad as seen here. I cut it up into six sections and sewed around the edges... but it was time for something different. (I say that a lot now- time to try something different).

So anywho... liking the changes. So far so good. Glad I made the switch back. Now if I can just get Elijah back on track with potty training... that would be awesome! Those of you who have done the potty training... any tips or suggestions?

Just before the cold snap, we took advantage of the unseasonable weather... running around, laying on the ground and sky gazing, swinging, and some other warm weather activities...

{we had to try out the new garden tools... a little snow gardening}

And now it feels like January... the heaters are running constantly... and you still need a few extra layers...and washing dishes is a desirable task for those cold fingers. We just need a little snow (yes I said I'd like some snow... but just a little... enough the coat the ramp at the neighboring church so we can go sledding down it again)

I am here! I promise.
I've been lurking, reading blogs... but just not blogging myself.
Just haven't made the time... or decided that sleeping or showering or something else was more pressing.
Hope to be back soon with posts... have plenty to share about our day to days... but for now... I see that it is almost 1am... and I put my boy to bed early... he's been a non-napper lately... not cool! So until next time.
